How it started

r12 began as a side experiment while working on a project inspired by Swiss design.

My plan was to build that project publicly on YouTube, but I needed a way to visualize and explain my design decisions directly in the browser. I’d make mood boards, but I think best when I’m designing and building at the same time.

I looked for Chrome extensions that could overlay grids — some were good, but all felt limited. So I thought, “This should be easy — a few days at most.”

Three months later, r12 was complete.

And it became more than I expected.

What is r12

r12 is a Chrome extension that enables designers, developers, and anyone who values structure to visualize layouts on any web surface using flexible, customizable grid systems.

It’s built around Swiss design principles — clarity, order, and balance — and takes inspiration from VST plugin interfaces: compact, functional, and modular.

These grids have transformed how I design and think about structure.

They’ve made me more creative, more precise, and more deliberate.
